What is a square unit?

A square unit is a measure of area in two-dimensional space, typically used in geometry and mathematics. It represents the amount of space enclosed by a square with sides of a specific length.

The most common unit of area used in the metric system is the square meter (m²), which is equal to the area of a square with sides measuring one meter each. Other common square units include the square centimeter (cm²) and the square kilometer (km²).

Square units are often used to measure the size of objects or areas, such as the floor space of a room, the area of a piece of land, or the dimensions of a piece of fabric.

When calculating the area of a shape, the units are squared to indicate that the value represents the amount of space enclosed within the shape. For example, if a square has sides measuring 2 meters each, the area would be calculated as 2 meters x 2 meters = 4 square meters.
